Live results, live feeds and streaming

What spectators see while a match is being played, how fast a registered result reaches the public, the self-updating results screen for the venue, calendar subscriptions, and how a match is linked to a video stream or an external live-statistics provider.

While a match is being reported live from the secretariat, the match appears on the public match lists with a running score instead of an empty result. Matches that are in progress are marked with a coloured stripe down the left edge of the match card: orange while the match is being played, blue once it is finished but still has a play-by-play to read.

Spectators do not have to do anything to follow along. A match card that is expected to be live updates its own score in place, without the page reloading and without anyone pressing refresh. Opening the match itself gives the full picture the secretariat has entered so far: the score, the sets or periods, and the list of events as they happen.

What a spectator is allowed to see is decided separately, by the visibility settings for the tournament, the class and the individual match. If results are hidden, nothing is published live either — see Hiding matches, schedules and results from the public.

On a page that is already open, a change to a match is sent out to everyone watching about two seconds after the secretariat saves it.

On a page you load fresh, some parts of a match list are served from a short-lived cache. That cache is rebuilt at most every 30 seconds, so a brand new result can take up to half a minute to appear in a cached list even though the match card itself already knows about it.

On the venue results screen, the whole page reloads every 30 seconds.

A few things stop live updating entirely, by design:

  • Results that are hidden are never published live. Nothing at all goes out for them.
  • A result edited long after the fact. Only results registered within the last three hours are pushed out to open match cards (two hours for a result that is being cleared). Correcting a result from last weekend will not make anyone's open page jump — it will be right on the next page load.
  • A lost internet connection. Live updating relies on a live connection to Profixio. If a phone loses signal or a laptop sleeps, the page stops updating and does not always say so. Reloading is the cure.

If a result seems stuck for longer than a minute on a freshly loaded page, the problem is almost never the delay described here — go through Checklist: live results are not showing.

The app has a Live page that gathers matches currently being reported live, across tournaments, so you do not have to know which tournament to look in.

A match is on that list when all of the following are true:

  • at least one event has been registered for it, so there is something live to show,
  • it has no winner yet, so it is not finished,
  • it is dated between yesterday and three days from now, and
  • something happened to it within the last hour.

The list can be sorted earliest-first or latest-first, and it loads more matches as you scroll. Matches drop off it by themselves once they are finished or once an hour passes with nothing happening.

Ordinary tournament match lists show live scores too — see What the public sees while a match is being played.

Live scores, calendar subscriptions and the venue results screen work the same way for every sport and federation. The integrations do not:

  • Video streaming has to be switched on for each federation and sport separately, which the federation arranges with Profixio support. It is not limited to any particular sport in the software — but it does nothing until it is enabled.
  • Live push to an external scoreboard and graphics service is switched on per federation and sport; contact Profixio support to have it switched on.
  • FIBA LiveStats statistics pages are embedded for Swedish basketball only.
  • Whether a class counts as being of public interest — and therefore streams regardless of anyone's reservation — is a federation decision, not a Profixio rule. Profixio provides the switch and applies it; it does not judge whether the class qualifies.

If your federation wants any of these and does not have them, this is a support and agreement matter, not a setting you are missing.

  • Registering the events that become a live score — the electronic match protocol, the clock, and who is allowed to report. See Reporting a match live and Preparing a match in the electronic match protocol.
  • Deciding what the public may see — hiding a whole match programme, a class's results or a single match. All the visibility rules live in Hiding matches, schedules and results from the public, and they override everything on this page.
  • The public tournament website itself — match lists, front page, news. See The public tournament pages.
  • Editing a match and typing in a final result. See Editing a match and registering results.
  • Rosters and how players get onto a team, including the register access a team leader needs. See The team roster (name list) and Managing a registered team.
  • Tables and standings, including how quickly they recalculate. See Series tables and standings.
  • Which events exist for each sport. See Sport-specific protocols and event types.
  • Getting your own system onto the live result feed. See Integrations, the open API and webservice access.
  • Favourites and push notifications in the app. See The Profixio app: favourites, my matches and notifications.
