Finding and creating a person

How people get into a federation's person register: searching before you create, fetching people from the Norwegian sports register, creating a person by hand, who may see personal numbers, and how duplicates, corrections and deletion requests are handled.

Looking for something else? Players registering themselves and being approved Player statistics and player profiles The referee register, roles and referee types Transferring a player between clubs Accounts and signing in Giving people access to a tournament

The person register is the federation's own list of people. One person has one record in it, and everything that has to follow a human being over time hangs off that record: licences, club memberships, transfers, team rosters in series, referee records, coach roles, match appearances and statistics.

That is why Profixio is fussy about how people get into it. A person created twice becomes two histories: the licence sits on one record, the roster line on the other, and the statistics split in half. Merging them afterwards is a manual, irreversible job.

Three things are easy to confuse and are not the same:

  • A person in the register — the human being, shared across all clubs, seasons and tournaments in the federation.
  • A player on a tournament's own player list — just a name typed into one cup, with no history and no licence. Ordinary cups work this way. See The team roster (name list).
  • A login account — an e-mail address and a password.

Not every federation uses the person register. Cups that keep their own player list never touch it.

The register stores a national personal number for people who came from a national member register, and a date of birth or year of birth for everyone else. Both are treated as sensitive.

  • Personal numbers are hidden from almost everyone. They are not shown to team leaders, club administrators, district staff or tournament administrators at all — not masked, simply absent from the screen. Only administrators in the one federation that is set up for it, and named system integrations that have been granted the right explicitly, ever see them.

Profixio is a data processor here: the federation or club is responsible for the data, and Profixio processes it on their behalf. Questions about a person's data can be sent to [email protected].

It is worth knowing what hangs off a single person record, because it explains why creating, merging and deleting people is treated so carefully. A person can carry:

  • Club memberships, with an active-from and active-to date, in one or more clubs, in one or more federations.
  • Licences — bought, pending, expired — and the invoices behind them.
  • Transfers between clubs, national and international, and the playing rights that result from them.
  • Team rosters in series and tournaments, with shirt numbers and roles.
  • Match appearances: line-ups, goals, cards, suspensions and the statistics built from them.
  • Referee records in federations, districts and clubs, and referee appointments to matches.
  • Coach and staff roles.
  • Ranking results, which are the reason merges are refused when both records have real results.
  • Followers — people who have added them as a favourite in the Profixio app.

None of these move when you edit a name. They move only in a merge, and they are the reason a merge cannot be undone.

  • Putting people on a team — adding players and coaches to a roster, shirt numbers, leader roles, roster limits and the player deadline: see The team roster (name list).
  • Whether a person may play — licences, licence types and periods, transfers, playing rights, age limits: see Player licences, Playing rights and eligibility, National transfers and International transfers.
  • People arriving automatically from a national member register, including why some of them fail to match an existing person: see Member sync from the national register.
  • Player pages, goals, cards and appearance counts: see Player statistics and profiles and Club, team and player pages.
  • Login accounts, signing in with Idrettens ID, and deleting your own account: see Accounts and signing in.
  • Who has which administrative rights, and searching for a user rather than a person: see Tournament roles and permissions.
  • Referee records built on a person: see The referee register, roles and types.
  • Giving an external system access to person data through the API: see Integrations, API and webservices.
