Looking for something else? Editing a match and registering results Hiding matches, schedules and results from the public Registering a team for a tournament Playing rights: is this player allowed to play? Fees, services and discounts

A class (also called a category) is the compartment a team or participant belongs to inside a tournament or a series: G13, Women senior, Division 1 North, Boys 2012. In practice every tournament has at least one class, because everything that registers has to choose one. Classes decide who plays whom, which fee applies, which groups exist, which standings table is calculated, and how the tournament is presented publicly.

Two teams in the same class cannot have the same name. A registration that repeats a name already used in the class is stopped with the message "Team name already exists", so the team leader has to choose a different name before the team can be registered.

Profixio keeps a class in two places, and the difference explains most of the confusion around this topic:

Registration class Match category
What it is What teams sign up for What the match programme, the groups, the tables and the app show
Where you edit it Settings → Klasser in tournament administration The Categories page in the match programme, and the category grid on the match list
Holds Code, description, age and gender, fee, registration limits, levels, registration deadline Name, match and period length, groups, playoffs, table criteria, sets, hidden-table flags

The two are linked by the class code. When the match programme is built, the registration classes are carried over into match categories with the same code, and the teams follow. From that point on the two records live separate lives: renaming the match category changes what the public sees, renaming the registration class changes what a team leader picks on the registration form.

Competition format is a property of the match category, not of the registration class. Whether a class plays a straight group, several pools, a playoff bracket or a combination is decided on the match side — see the sections below.

Two different things decide what a standings table looks like:

  • The calculation — how many points a win, a draw and a loss are worth, and the ordered list of criteria used to separate teams on equal points.
  • The table view — which columns are shown, and in what order. Changing the view never changes the ranking.

Every criterion has a priority, a direction and a scope. Priority is the order it is applied in. Sort by most points says whether a high value is better. Locally says the criterion is calculated only from the matches the tied teams played against each other — the head-to-head rule — instead of from the whole group. In the on-screen explanation, criteria calculated locally are marked with an asterisk.

The criteria available are the statistics Profixio computes per team: points, matches played, wins, draws, losses, goals for, goals against, goal difference, goal ratio, game-ball totals and ratios, set ratio and set difference, drawing of lots, and forced placing. Some federations add their own — Swedish basketball, for example, has criteria based on regulation time only (win percentage in regulation, wins in regulation, points scored and difference in regulation) so that overtime results are treated separately.

Defaults come from your federation. A calculation is defined per country and sport, so a class starts with the criteria your federation uses and normally needs no attention. An organisation can have its own copy of a calculation, and a class points at whichever one it uses.

What you can do yourself today. On the category's Category tab, Rang type and Visning rto id select the calculation and the table layout by their numeric id, with the help texts "Select which type of ranking table should be used" and "Select how the table should be displayed". The Match table tab is a read-only explanation: "Explanation for match table calculation" lists the criteria actually in use with priority, name, "sort by most points" and "locally", and "Ranking View Table" lists the display columns. It also renders the full calculated table so you can see the effect. If the class has no criteria you get "Criteria not found".

Changing the criteria. Ask your federation or district administrator to change the criteria for a class.

Everyone can see why a table looks the way it does. Under every standings table there are two buttons: Table explanation opens the ordered criteria list, and Calculation for teams with same points shows a step-by-step log of how tied teams were separated, highlighting the value that actually broke the tie. Organisers additionally see when the table was last generated.

Drawing lots. Profixio does not draw for you. When two teams are completely equal after the group stage, you decide the winner outside the system — coin toss, penalties — and then record it: open any match in the group, go to the advanced tab, use Open Draw/tie Window and pick the team that won the draw. That team is marked (*DL) in the table and the standings are recalculated. A team pinned to a place with Forced position is shown with the place in brackets after its name.

How the standings are presented and refreshed is covered on the standings page; ranking points and seeding rules per federation are on the ranking page.

This page covers classes and the shape of the competition. Neighbouring topics have their own pages:

  • Match generation and scheduling — dividing teams into groups, generating the fixtures, seeding, play keys, moving matches and setting times. Everything that turns a format into actual matches.
  • League standings and tables — how the standings are calculated, cached and displayed, and how to force or correct a table.
  • Ranking points and seeding — how each federation's ranking works and how it feeds seeding.
  • Fees, services and discounts, and invoicing teams — what the class fee ends up costing and how it reaches an invoice.
  • Tournament settings — the tournament-wide settings that classes sit inside, including the registration deadlines and the master switch for the match programme.
  • Match and result visibility — hiding the match programme, individual matches and results.
  • Editing matches and results — the match edit screen itself, including the draw/tie window and locking teams.
  • Team registration for a tournament and managing a registered team — what a team leader sees when they choose a class and a level.
  • League season setup — league levels, divisions and which teams belong to which level.
  • Playing rights and eligibility — who may play in a class.
