Creating a new tournament

Creating a new tournament

How an organiser creates a tournament in the six-step guide — country, sport and licence, copying an earlier edition, details, classes, services and payment — and how it is then approved and published. Also covers the settings the guide chooses for you and why a new tournament starts out invisible.

Looking for something else? Setting up a series season Fees, services and discounts Invoicing teams The public tournament pages

Profixio consists of two solutions: Profixio CUP and Profixio LEAGUE. Profixio CUP is used for club tournaments, and Profixio LEAGUE for series play administered by a sports federation or district. This page is about Profixio CUP.

Creating a tournament in Profixio means creating its registration site: the public page where teams sign up, order services and receive invoices. Everything else — classes, the match schedule, results, the tournament website — is built on top of that. Even a small friendly tournament needs one; if nobody is going to register themselves, you enter the teams yourself afterwards.

You create a tournament yourself from My Profixio, through a six-step guide. It takes a few minutes. Nothing is installed — Profixio is entirely web based.

A new tournament goes through three states, and they are not the same thing:

  1. Created. The tournament exists and you can work on it, but it is not visible to anyone else.
  2. Approved. Somebody connected to the organising club or organisation has confirmed that this tournament is genuine. Until then it cannot be published.
  3. Published. The tournament is visible in Profixio's search and in the app, and teams can register from the date you set for registration opening.

Creating a tournament is free. Profixio invoices the organiser after the tournament has taken place, based on the number of teams, the payment method and any extra services. Creating a tournament that never runs costs nothing.

Profixio’s prices for organisers are published on profixio.com/cup. The large volume of tournaments is what keeps them low.

This page covers everything up to and including publishing a brand new tournament. Neighbouring topics have their own pages:

  • Tournament settings — everything you change after the tournament exists: main settings, deadlines, club, team and player settings, cancelling a tournament, and copying pages, venues and check-in setup from an earlier edition.
  • Classes and competition format — creating and configuring classes properly, including waiting lists, maximum number of teams, number of players and weight classes. The guide only gets you started.
  • Fees, services and discounts and invoicing teams — what teams are charged and how invoices are produced, beyond the two steps in the guide.
  • Online payments — choosing and setting up Ping Payments or Profixio invoices, and what each means for the organiser.
  • The tournament website and pages — the articles, news and menus on the tournament's public site.
  • Match and result visibility — the hidden match programme that every new tournament starts with, and how to publish fixtures and results.
  • Tournament roles and permissions — giving colleagues access to the tournament you just created.
  • League season setup — series and leagues run by a federation or district are not created through this guide at all.
  • Accounts and signing in — creating the Profixio account you need before you can start.
